PERTABALAN SPB AGONG KE 14 2012

All malaysian would have been proud to witness the installation of the 14 th Yang DiPertuan Agong yesterday.
The ceremony was steeped in royal tradition amidst  the grandeur and splendor of the new Istana Negara at Jalan Duta.

I would  like to share with readers my rare collection of an original B/W  photo of the installation of the first Yang Di Pertuan Agong  Al-Marhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Muhammad.

This photo was taken on Sept. 1957 at Dewan Tuanku Abdul Rahman Kuala Lumpur. How far we have progressed since merdeka? Then the ceremony and settings look modest though dignified and regal..
This photo came to my possession from  online purchase from overseas dealer.
This is what is called a press photo.
It is an original press photograph though it's difficult to say if there are other copies developed from the same set of negatives.
Be careful when buying press photos online. There is a variety of press photo called wire photo usually by AP or Reuters where an original photo such as above is used as a template to sent to various news offices worldwide, much like a fax machine  nowadays. These press wire photo are plentiful and easy to find.
There are many ways to differentiate an original press photo and a wire photo.

I upload the back of my photo to show that an original press photo would have some caption typed and pasted on the back for descriptive purposes.
A wire photo would have the description set together with the image as there are scanned together.
Readers can go to  http://ifoto.penerangan.gov.my for more archive photo of the first installation of Agong which is similar to my photograph. There is also other  rare interesting images from the past for those who are interested in our past history.
